Student Visa

Student route applications including switching and dependants.

The UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4) is the main route for international students aged 16 and over to study in the United Kingdom. Applicants must have a confirmed place at a Home Office-licensed student sponsor, meet the English language requirement, and demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover their tuition fees and living costs. BW Solicitors provides clear advice on all aspects of the Student visa route.

Key Requirements for a Student Visa

To apply for a UK Student visa, you must hold an unconditional offer of a place on a course from a Home Office-licensed educational institution, who will issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You must also demonstrate English language proficiency at the required level, show that you have sufficient funds in your bank account for a consecutive 28-day period, and satisfy the Home Office that you are a genuine student.

  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a licensed sponsor
  • English language requirement (typically B2 CEFR for degree level)
  • Evidence of funds: tuition fees outstanding plus £1,334 per month for studies in London (up to 9 months)
  • ATAS certificate where required for certain sensitive subjects
  • Academic progression requirement for visa extensions
  • Genuine student assessment
